The American people will have to pay more at the pump and at the grocery store. With the price of homes and cars going up, some people think that the dream of home ownership is getting farther away from them.

Many Americans’ bills are going up, but salaries are staying the same.

The direct impact of inflation on tuition may be limited, but students are likely to feel its effects on their overall cost of living.

From January to July 2021, rent prices jumped by a shocking 11.4 percent, bringing the national median rent payment to $1,244, according to the Ithican, Ithaca College’s newspaper,

Even students who are living at home with their parents are feeling it too.

Just because they still live at home, does not mean they are getting a free ride. Some students are working two to three jobs at the same time and still going to school. Some students are even scared to take out education loans, fearing inflation and the effects it will have on interest rates.

With the world facing inflation with the cost of food and gas going up, students are facing uncertain times. Some students have had to pass on having a social life outside of school and work.

You cannot escape the effects of inflation, regardless of your social class.

OCCC SGA President Sergio Martinez said he has been feeling the effects of inflation and discussed it with other OCCC community members.

Martinez is a sophomore at OCCC majoring in diverse studies. He first enrolled in the college three years ago.

“We talked about gas is major concern the cost of like groceries and goods is a major concern usually like just things that you buy and make a daily living everything is going up,” Martinez said.

“So, it is making it harder just to kind get by daily.”

Student worker Jud Cambrook, a 21-year-old sophomore at OCCC, said inflation has caused uncertainty.

“In all honestly, it put damper on my future because I been trying to save up to move out my parents’ house,” Cambrook said.

“I still live with my parents and stuff and I and now having just worry about paying for gas each month and stuff. And being a professional dancer, I am used to having two jobs. I also used to work at a store but I wasn’t making any money because like everything is so expensive”

According to the New York Times, inflation is something that the American people will have to get used to because it is not going away any time soon.

The American people will have to pay more at the pump and at the grocery store. With the price of homes and cars going up, some people think that the dream of home ownership is getting farther away from them. Some people even believe that they will burn through their cash reserves just to stay afloat.
